CHA Animal Shelter is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal shelter in northeast Columbus, Ohio. CHA is funded solely from adoption fees, public donations, and our fundraising efforts.
Our mission is to serve the people and animals of Central Ohio by providing safe, temporary shelter and care for abandoned or otherwise homeless cats and dogs, and to reduce pet overpopulation by means of spay and neuter, education, and community outreach. We have been fulfilling our mission since 1975.
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported the animals at CHA Animal Shelter. Our donors, adopters, staff, and volunteers are truly extraordinary. In 2025, we helped 1,324 animals find loving adoptive homes because of your compassion and generosity. Through the actions of our CHA Community, the animals still in our care are receiving the love, comfort, and medical attention they need while they wait for their forever families.

CHA Animal Shelter staff and volunteers proudly participate in the Fear Free Shelter Program. It helps improve animals' experiences by educating shelter, rescue, and animal welfare employees and volunteers about their emotional needs. We ask all volunteers to do the Fear Free training before they start their first shift and it is required of all staff members.
